Notes from Heritage High School 05/24/19
The Showcase Elite got the better of the Tribe in game one at Heritage. A strong outing on the Bump from the Elite pitchers Ward and Overstreet. The Elite were lead on offense by Branek who had a consistent and powerful swing all day. However Timbes and Mcnabb both had good days for the tribe at the plate as well, they produced their teams only runs.
Sheffield was a high point for the Mavericks today striking out 12 in 5 innings. The Mavericks pushed across one in the second on a wild pitch and never looked back from there. Chewb had a good day on the mound for the bombers as well, keeping the Mavericks off balanced with his three pitch mix. Mavericks take this one 2-0.
05/25 Exposure v. Tribe Both teams had solid starting pitching. Hensley from Tribe baseball and Heenrick from A2K both put up zeroes in the first. The pitchers duel continued until the bottom of the third when A2K hit back to back doubles giving them the 1-0 lead. Final line from Heenrick is: 3.1 IP 3 K’s 1 Walk 1 hit 0 runs. They scratch again in the fourth behind a leadoff triple by Maynor. Snyder unloads a three run bomb in the fifth to bust the game open 5-0. Exposure win 12-0 on the back of two home runs by Mountjoy and Snyder.
Pro Hitting Prospects v. Midwest Regional Team This game was a low scoring affair with both teams starters going 5 innings and only allowing one run. This one came down to the wire with Midwest coming out on top 6-5.
Bc Boyton v Tribe BC jumps out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a leadoff walk and doubles by Taylor and Sutton. The tribe answer back in the second with a leadoff triple from Timbes, end up scoring 5 in the inning. BC battles back in the fourth pushing across two more to make it 5-4 Tribe. In the top of the fifth BC answered again going up 6-5 on a FC by Sutton. They then add on the 6th on consecutive past balls and lead 8-6. Sutton comes on to close it out for BC.
A2K Exposure v. Showcase Elite Both teams scratch on iffy pitching in the first inning. Both pitchers will settle in though. A2K takes the lead on a bases loaded walk by Tinsley. Exposure busted it open in the fifth with three doubles in a row after a leadoff walk. Caden Snyder Hits his second home run of the day to propel the Exposure over the Elite.
BC Sweet v GATA Wolfpack The wolfpack get 1-2-3 inning from their starter. They turn around and put up 3 in the first to take the early lead. They get another 1-2-3 from their starter. #18 goes deep for Sweet ( not on roster) to bring it back to 3-1 in the third. Wolfpack steal home to go up 4-1. Sweet pushes
one across in the seventh. Tying it up. Sweet explode for a 13 run top of the eight and cruise to a 18-5 victory
Notes from Maryville College
Crusaders vs Grind
The Crusaders had a CG thrown by Eatman. He threw strikes well with a solid slider. Many good offensive guys for the Crusaders. They were led by # 16 J. Torbett with 2 triples. The Grind started #16, Pitts, but he struggled and was replaced in the top of the 1st. #18 Lawhorn came in and threw multiple good relief innings for the TN Grind. The game ended with a final score of 12-5 in 5.5 innings with Crusaders on top.
Write up
Exposure vs BC Sweet
The game started out as a great pitchers duel between Bay Griffin from BCA Sweet and Norris from eXposure 16u Louisville Slugger. Both pitchers had great stuff with good ability to locate. Norris exited the game with a 6-2 lead over BCA Sweet, but BCA was able to take advantage of some costly walks and took the lead. Lots of good quality at bats from both sides, but no stand out guys at the plate.
Bc Boynton vs Showcase 15u
Both starters started off really well. #34, Max Fell threw 4 strong innings for Showcase. Fell was a tall lefty with great stuff. #12, Avery Crabtree threw great for BCA as well. He threw 6 innings of 1 run baseball for BCA with a high number of strike-outs. His slider looked good. BCA bats came alive in the 5th when Showcase put in relief pitcher #18, Tanner Copley. Copley struggled with strikes to start but eventually started to give up some hits. Overall, a very well-played game by BCA Boynton.
BC Sweet vs Showcase16u
Showcase Elite 16u hangs on to take down BCA Sweet with a final of 7-5. Both teams struggled to throw strikes throughout the game. However, #15, Jace Maxey from BCA gave his team some solid innings in relief, showing some good offspeed. BCA was led offensively by SS #16, Donovan Black (pretty good ball player) and the 2B #22, Will Nelms. Showcase Elite showed good bats all around, and the SS #24 looked great defensively up the middle of the field.
GATA vs Exposure
eXposure Louisville Slugger defeats GATA Wolfpack 13-3 after 5 innings. The game started out close between the two teams Going into the 4th inning, Wolfpack was up 2-0 but the eXposure bats came alive in the 4th to score 5 then 8 in the 5th. eXposure’s offense was started by #17 Alexander. #59 Melton also had multiple good at bats for eXposure. The Wolfpack was led by the SS, #23 Owens. Owens had a smooth, compact swing allowing him to hit the ball well.
Wilson County vs Pro Hitting
In this matchup the Prospects topped the Brawlers with a run-rule score of 11-1. Pro Hitting Prospects Jumped early on the Brawlers by scoring 7 runs in the second inning. Not only were the Prospects’ bats rolling, but the Brawlers made many errors. #37, Thomas, got the first RBI for the prospects that started the train of runs. After the second inning, the Brawlers brought in #5, K. Carver, who threw many good innings of relief. The starting pitcher for the Brawlers looked good at the plate even though his pitching start was full of unfortunate events. He had a good pop off his bat for a 14u player.
Showcase 16u vs Exposure
This game was an unbelievable pitchers duel with an ending score of 0-0 after 8 innings of play. Outstanding starts by eXposure L.S. starter #8, Powers who went 7 innings scoreless and Showcase Elite 16u starter #2, Jacob who went the full 8 innings scoreless. Great games defensively as well from guys on both sides: #57 Genter is great catching and hitting for eXposure, #59 Melton is also a solid player defensively at 1B and offensively for eXposure, #36 Jack C. had a good game behind the dish for Showcase Elite, and #11, Derek looked good in CF for Showcase Elite. However, despite all the defense both sides hit some balls well.
Hit after Hit vs Wilson County
The Wilson Co. Brawlers and Hit after Hit Outlawas (Nolen) finished their game in a 6-6 tie after 7 innings. Great start from #8 Carter Lee for the Brawlers. Lee gave up 2 in the 1st but put up all 0’s in his next 3 innings. He finished his outing with 4.0 innings pitched and 7 K’s. The catcher for the Brawlers, #3 Max Duckwiler helped Lee the best he could from behind the plate with his great blocking ability and receiving. #5 Kaleb Carver, the CF for the Brawlers, had himself a standout day at the plate. He showed his ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. Carver also came in relief in the top of the 7th and got a clutch out to keep the game tied. After 2.3 innings from the Outlaws starter, the Outlaws put in reliever #13 Kai Zelaya. Zelaya put up 0’s the remainder of his innings. Zelaya showed his good velocity and his ability to miss bats. The Outlaws were led all around by #26 Aguilar. Aguilar showed his good defensive abilities and leadership abilities at 3B. Aguilar hit hard line drives to all fields and ran the bases really well. Aguilar came in for teh Outlaws in the bottom of the 7th to finish his game. He has a good fastball with good armside run as a righty. Outstanding player. #25 Matthew Kirby had a clutch double to deep left that tied up the game in the top of the 7th.
Crusaders vs Generals
The Crusaders topped the Chattanooga Generals with a final score of 12-6. The game started off a little back and forth. Crusaders struck for 2 in the bottom of the 1st while the Generals got one back in the top of the 2nd. Going into the 3rd the game was tied but the crusaders jumped back on top with a 5 run lead and continued the lead from then on. #16 J. Torbett stood out for the Crusaders at the plate today. He consistently hit the ball hard and got some good key RBI hits for his team. #7 Jaso Reel led the charge offensively for the Generals. Reel hit the ball well while having a good game in CF as well.
Rockets vs Stars
East TN Rockets came from behind to beat the Knoxville stars 7-5. The Rockets started off the game with two great defensive plays by #3 Spencer Powell at 3B and #24 Gavin Johnson at 1B. The Rockets were the first on the scoreboard by scoring 1 in the bottom of the 1st. The game stayed really close from then on with the Stars maintaining the lead. However, in the bottom of the 5th inning the Rockets took advantage of an unfortunate missed pop fly, scoring 3 to take the lead 7-5. Neither team had any stand outs offensively or defensively, but both teams played well.
Crusaders vs Rockets Championship
The Crusaders win over the Rockets by a score of 11-0. The Crusaders got a big lead early by striking for 5 in the home half of the 1st. From that point on, the lead just grew. This provided a good cushion for #24 Cole Torbett to work. Torbett commanded the zone really well, forcing a lot of soft contact from the Rockets. #16 J. Torbett stood out at the plate again for the Crusaders. Torbett has a great swing that allows him to hit very consistently. For the Rockets, the CF #20 Cade Fleeman looked good with some good at bats against a tough arm. Fleeman also showed out with a couple diving plays in CF.
May 24th
Game One: TN Bash vs JC Braves
The Tennessee Bash’s offense was too much to handle for the JC Braves in this evening match up as the Bash combined for 10 runs compared to the Braves 2. The braves struggled to get the bats going. Hits were few and far between for the braves who struggled to get a timely hit. Time would be a factor in this game as only six innings were completed before the umpire raised his hands to signal for the end of the game.
Game Two: Diamond USA vs. Midwest Prospect Regional Team
Game two of the night proved to be exciting as Diamond USA pulls out the victory 6-5; taking the lead in the later innings. It was all Midwest prospects early in this one. Taking only three innings to jump out to a 5-2 lead. Innings four, five and six would prove to be just as exciting as Diamond USA would get two back in the fourth and two more in the fifth which put them ahead 6-5. That was all they needed as they shut down the Midwest Prospects in the sixth to close out the game.
May 25th
Game One: BLBA Black vs BC Athletics 14u
The BLBA black made quick work of the Athletics in only 5 innings, scoring 11 runs to the athletics 0. This game ended in a mercy rule in favor or the BLBA black. Hits and errors plagued the athletics throughout the game. The game was all BLBA black from first pitch until the last pitch. The pitching and defense for the black didn’t give the athletics any chances to mount a comeback.
Game Two: BC Athletics vs. eXposure Louisville
Game two of the day was a back ‘n forth affair between the two clubs. The Athletics jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. The exposure would punch back with a crooked number of their own in the fourth scoring 3 to take the lead 3-2. The Athletics would explode for three more in the fifth taking back the lead and then extending it to 5-3. Exposure would then use the sixth inning to score 2 more runs and tie the game at 5. The seventh would prove also exciting as the Athletics would walk it off on a past ball that allowed the runner from third to advance and score the winning run. Athletics avenge their run rule loss by walking it off and taking the W against the exposure.
Game Three: Exposure Louisville vs. MAD Mavericks
The mid-day match up between the two clubs proved to be a good one. It was all exposure early; scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the first. It would be the exposure again in the top of the 2nd scoring 6 runs with the help of two, two run doubles by Lardon Skeen and Jacob Tobias. Two more runs in the inning came from RBI’s singles from Reece Jordan and Aiden Temple. This would propel the exposure out to an early 8-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning the Mavericks were able to scratch back 2 runs on back-to-back RBI singles. After the second it was all Mavs. In the bottom of the third the Mavs busted for four runs on 6 hits to close the gap to 2 runs. The bottom of the fourth inning was a costly one for the exposure; giving up 6 runs off of 3 hits. An RBI single by Mangrum put the Mavs down 8-7. Gardner reached on an error that allowed Briggs to score which would tie the game. Sheffield also joined the party getting an RBI single of his own to put the Mavs ahead by 1 (9-8). Big damage was done by the two-run triple hit by Whitman who would then advance on a throwing error which would allow him to score himself and bring the Mavs lead to three. This would be all the Mavs needed to hold off the exposure for the rest of the game. Final score; 12-9 MAD Mavs.
Game Four: TN Bombers vs. BLBA Black
The mid evening match-up between the two 14u teams was a lopsided one to say the least. Early in the game it appeared to be in the bombers favor; scoring two in the first inning and jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Not long after the black started to swing it. Scoring two in the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth. BLBA’s bats stayed alive during the 5th inning where they tacked on 3 more runs to make it an 11-2 score. In the sixth, both teams stayed quiet scoring no runs on no hits for either side. The 7th was a different story with the BLBA black tacking on 3 insurance runs before moving to the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the seventh the bombers tried to make a run at the huge deficit. They added on three to their total of 2 to make it 14-5. The rally would go for not as the final score would remain at 14-5 in favor of the BLBA Blacks.
Game Five: Hit after Hit Outlaws – miles vs. MAD Mavericks
I was umpiring the start of this game and do not recall the exact scoring plays or who was involved in them. I know the final score was a 9-0 run rule in favor of the Outlaws in six innings.
Game Six: TN Bombers vs. Hit After Hit Outlaws – Miles
The under the lights match-up between the two 14u clubs would prove to be tight one down the stretch An RBI double in the top of the first by Ben Sompayrac gave the bombers a 1-0 lead. The bombers weren’t done as Luke Jones single, scoring Sompayrac giving the Bombers a 2-0 lead after the top of the first. Bats would stay quiet in the top of the second for the bombers. The same couldn’t be said about the outlaws who would strike for 2 in the inning off of an RBI double from Myatt and then score again on a ground ball out to the right side from Pilkinton. Once again the bombers were held scoreless in the top of the inning. The outlaws would join the club and also be held to no runs in the bottom of the third inning. The top of the fourth for the bombers would prove no different than the third; pushing no runs across the plate. The Outlaws would have no part in the no scoring affair as an RBI single by Dunkin would give the Outlaws the lead 3-2. The top of the fifth was a different story for the bombers, Tipton would score on a past ball. That’s all they would get in the top half of the 5th bringing the score back to even; 3-3. The outlaws score one in the bottom of the fifth coming off of an RBI single from Dunkin. Outlaws lead 4-3. The bombers were once again held quiet in the top half. No runs coming across for the Bombers in the top of the 6th. The score would remain 4-3 even after the bottom half of the 6th, as the outlaws were not able to push across any runs. The outlaws would hold the bombers scoreless in the top half of the 7th to hang on to a 4-3 victory.
