Cumberland University Fall Blast: Day One

TN Longhorns vs. TN Speed

TN Longhorns put the pressure on early with a two-out base hits by #5 Jacob, followed by a walk by #13 Cody. Yet, Speed’s #13 Sam Walker broke out of the jam and allowed two to get on base. TN Speed jumped on the board in a hurry, when #23 Dylan both walked the bases loaded and got 1 run in. This was quickly followed by three big run-producing hits from #13 Sam Walker, #12 Leigh Sullivan, and #15 Nathan Inman. Another run walked in from a quality at-bat from #42 Drake Lewis and #9 Seth Creaser, pushing the lead to 6-0. #5 Tyler Harrold achieved a bases-loaded infield single to extend the lead to 7-0. A walk for #26 Ben Sills and miscommunication for a fly ball in the infield extended the lead to 10-0. Another base hit for TN Speed from #28 Coby Pinder brought the lead to 11-0, as we entered the 2nd inning. This would be another quick inning for #13 Sam Walker, looking dominant on the mound through 2 innings. Although they had a walk for #42 Drake Lewis, #9 Seth Creaser, and #49 Bryce Bollinger with two outs, TN Speed was not able to capitalize, but they still entered into the 3rd inning with a score of 11-0. #13 Sam Walker worked another quick inning for TN Speed as they continued to lead the game 11-0, going into the bottom half of the 3rd. #1 Ingram put together a quick inning for TN Longhorns. They trailed TN Speed 11-0 going into the top half of the 4th. A walk for #27 Braden and an HBP for #10 Shawn meant TN Longhorns now had two players in scoring position. #13 Cody knocked in two with a single to center field to cut the TN Speed’s lead to 11-2. #13 Sam Walker slammed a double off the wall to score the game-winning run. TN Speed defeated the TN Longhorns by a score of 12-2.

 

Hit after Hit Outlaws – Parker vs. TN Longhorns

Other than a walk to #10 Shawn for TN Longhorns, #20 Regen worked a smooth first inning for Hit after Hit Outlaws. With two walks in the inning for Hit after Hit, #33 Isaiah still escaped the inning without giving up a run. #20 Regen then worked another solid inning for Hit after Hit. He did so by working around a walk and then striking out the side. A walk for #2 Oathoat and an error on a groundball led to an out and a runner on third. #20 Regen struck out but still advanced on the passed ball and scored a run. Hit after Hit claimed a 1-0 lead going into the 3rd. Because of a walk for #1 Ingram and a base hit from #16 Issac, TN Longhorns had runners in scoring position with 2 outs. However, TN Longhorns were not able to push anything across the plate, and the inning lead is still 1-0 going into the bottom half of the 3rd. #24 scorched a ball over the center fielders head for a triple. A hard hit ball by #28 Juillerat scored #24, making the lead 2-0. An error in the outfield let #18 Carson get on base at second with 2 outs. #25 Jackson then knocked a ground-rule double to left field, scoring #18 Carson and increasing the lead to 3-0. The scoring continued when #21 Sweatt knocked in a run of his own with a single to left field. This scored #18 Carson and extended the Hit after Hit lead to 4-0. #2 Oathoat then reached base, advancing #21 Sweatt. This was then followed by a single from #33 Patterson, which scored #21 Sweatt and brought the lead up to 5-0. #20 Regen worked another scoreless inning striking out the side for Hit after Hit Outlaws. #18 Carson slammed a huge RBI double to the left-field wall, extending the score to 8-0. #30 Lopez hit one to left field where the ball was then dropped. They scored two runs. Hit after Hit Outlaws claimed a run-rule victory over TN Longhorns with a decisive final score of 10-0.

 

TN Speed vs. Hit after Hit Outlaws 17u

The game began with two straight walks for TN Speed. Now, there were runners on first and second with no outs. Two straight ground balls, including a fielders choice from #28 Coby Pinder, brought in one run for TN Speed. Two straight hits from #1 Skelton and #11 Pfaffman led off the inning and put runners on 1st and 3rd. A passed ball scored 1 and it was now 1-1 with runners on base. Then, a triple to the wall from #6 Whitaker brought the score to 4-1 in favor of Hit after Hit 17u. #12 Brewington achieved a 1,2,3 inning in the top half of the 2nd inning to keep the lead at 4-1. With both a lead-off walk for #8 Galbreath and a free pass for #1 Skelton, there were now 2 on base with no outs in the bottom of the 2nd. #11 Pfaffman hit an RBI single to right field to extend the lead to 5-1. A fielder’s choice for #22 Swader gave him 2 RBI’s, as the shortstop threw the second half of the double play into the dugout. #12 Brewington worked another 1,2,3 inning to contain the lead to 7-1 going into the bottom half of the 3rd. #15 Epperson and #8 Galbreath reached base via a walk and an error by the 3rd baseman to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. #1 Skelton received a walk, which loaded the bases. This was soon followed by a 2 RBI single from #11 Pfaffman, bringing the score to 9-1. The top of the 4th started with a lead-off walk to #26 Ben Sills, followed up with another walk to #20 Alex Harrison. There were now runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. A ground ball and a sac fly to #12 Leigh Sullivan followed two walks, and so TN Speed scored one during the inning to shrink the lead to 9-2. #20 Garner lead off the inning with a walk that was quickly followed by a triple to the center-field wall by #22 Swader. This pushed the lead to 10-2. A lead-off walk by #42 Drake Lewis was wiped away when he was caught stealing at 3rd. There were two down in the top half of the 5th. In the end, Hit after Hit Outlaws 17u claimed a 10-2 victory over TN Speed via run rule.

 

Diamond Dawgs vs. Hit after Hit Outlaws- Parker

A lead-off error put #28 Juillerat on base to start off the game, but #3 buckled down and closed the inning, while leaving him at 3rd. Scoring was at a premium in the 2nd inning. Three straight batters reached base, and #2 Oathoat hit a ball to the 3rd baseman, who committed an error. This allowed Hit after Hit the first run of the ball game. #33 Patterson hit into a fielder’s choice that scored a run, making it 2-0. A hard hit single to the right from #19 Griner scored #2 Oathoat and left two on the bases. The lead is pushed to 3-0 Hit after Hit. Another base hit from #31 Pletan scored #33 Patterson and #19 Griner, pushing the lead even further to 5-0. #28 Juillerat knocked a sac fly into center field, scoring #31 Pletan from 3rd to make it 6-0 going into the bottom half of the 3rd. Diamond Dawgs threatened by putting two runners into scoring position, but #21 Sweatt didn’t give up a run. #34 threw his first 1,2,3 inning of the game, holding the lead to 6-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd. #21 Sweatt brought another quick inning and worked around a walk to keep the Diamond Dawgs scoreless going into the top of the 4th. #2 Oathoat walked to lead off the next inning. This was directly followed by an error from the second baseman, so Hit after Hit had two on and no out. #34 worked his way out of the jam and halted the Hit after Hit rally. The lead stayed unchanged. #9 and #3 strung together 2 hits, leaving runners on first and third with one out. A 9-3 double play brought #21 Sweatt out of the inning with no runs across for Diamond Dawgs. #18 Carson drew a 2 out walk but would not come around to score, as #34 worked another solid inning on the bump for Diamond Dawgs. With a lead-off triple for #24, Diamond Dawgs now had a runner on third with no outs. Diamond Dawgs were unable to capitalize because #2 Oathoat worked out of the jam and kept the shutout intact. #21 Sweatt singled up the middle. A following error from the third baseman put two on base with no outs. Still, #34 stranded them on base. This kept the tie going into the bottom of the 6th. #2 Oathoat worked a 1,2,3 inning in the bottom half of the 6th, taking us into the last inning of the game. The score is still 6-0 Hit after Hit. #19 Griner hit a ball back to the pitcher who threw it into right field, advancing Griner all the way to third base with no outs. Another error from Diamond Dawgs allowed #31 Pletan to get on base and score #19 Griner, making it 7-0. #34 limited the damage and escaped the inning without allowing any more runs. Diamond Dawgs wouldn’t give up, though. With a back to back hit for #3 and #12, Diamond Dawgs put two in scoring position with no outs. #14 then knocked in two with the help of an error by the second baseman. The score is now 7-2 with a runner on and nobody out. However, no more runs would come around to score, and Hit after Hit won the ballgame 7-2.
